Summary
This guide outlines the new features and behaviors enabled in system detachments around feed call adjustments, ration updates, and intra-day cattle movements. It also includes key rules, order of operations, and how these updates impact usage on iPads.
Core Functionality Overview
You can now modify feeding logic during the day more flexibly, with some key rules based on whether feeding has already started.
Feed Call Adjustments
- You can update the feed call value for a pen at any time during the day.
- Updates will:
- Re-distribute the call across open feedings if feeding has already started.
- Fully redistribute across all feedings if none have started.
Ration & Feeding Number Updates
- You can change the ration, feeding number, or both even after the feed call is created.
- These changes only take effect if you save the feed call again for the affected pen.
- The updated ration and feeding numbers will then reflect in the iPad Loader and Feed Truck apps—unless feeding has already started.
Intra-Day Cattle Movement
- Moving cattle between pens mid-day is now supported without breaking the feed system logic.
- System behavior depends on whether feeding has started in the source or destination pen.
- Any updates to headcount or ration logic due to movement only take effect if the feed call is saved again in the affected pens.
App Sections Impacted
| Feature / Change | iPad Loader App | iPad Feed Truck App |
|---|---|---|
| Feed Call Updates | Reflects updated ration, feeding numbers, and call values | Shows accurate call value and ration name on delivery screen |
| Ration Change (only if feed call is saved again) | Dropdown updates call values accordingly | Updated ration name displays correctly |
| Cattle Movements (only if feed call is saved again) | No visual change | Delivery screen updates to reflect correct pens and call values, including multi-pens |
Do's and Don'ts (Rules Summary)
✅ Do's
- Before Feeding Starts:
- Freely change ration schedules and feed call values.
- Move cattle between pens. System applies updated logic to both pens independently (only if feed call is saved again).
- Update ration or feeding numbers for any pen — remember to save the feed call again after any change.
- After Feeding Starts:
- Update the feed call value. Remaining feedings are adjusted accordingly.
- Move cattle between pens. Feed call and ration logic are preserved (only if feed call is saved again).
- Always:
- Use the Feed Call History to review past and updated feed calls.
- Ensure cattle movements are accounted for when updating feed calls or rations.
- Save feed call again to activate changes in ration or headcount.
❌ Don'ts
- Do not modify ration or feeding number if feeding has already started. A pop-up will block changes: “Feeding started cannot create feed call now.”
- Do not assume a changed ration or feed schedule will apply unless you save feed call again for that pen.
- Do not reduce the feed call below the amount already fed—system will block this.
Order of Operations for Daily Workflow
- Check Feed Call & Ration Schedules for all pens before feeding begins.
- Make Intra-Day Cattle Movements as needed.
- If cattle are moved after some feedings, the destination pen inherits appropriate data, depending on whether it was empty or not.
- Save feed call again for all pens involved to apply changes.
- Update Ration or Feeding Numbers
- These changes will not take effect unless you save feed call again.
- Update Feed Calls (if needed)
- System will handle distribution across open or completed feedings as appropriate.
- Monitor iPad Apps to confirm delivery screens reflect correct pens, feeding numbers, and ration names.
Intra-Day Cattle Movement Logic (Simplified Rules)
| Scenario | System Behavior |
|---|---|
| Move before any feeding (source/destination) | Both pens act independently; updates allowed (only if feed call is saved again) |
| Move after feeding started in either pen | New functionality respects feeding status and applies updates (only if feed call is saved again) |
| Move to empty destination pen | Destination pen inherits ration schedule and feed call (only if feed call is saved again) |
| Move from source to multiple destinations | All affected pens show updated feed call values (only if feed call is saved again) |
| Multiple feedings, partial movement | Each feeding reflects new headcounts and setup (only if feed call is saved again) |
iPad-Specific Behavior
Loader App
- Feed call value, ration name, and feeding number dropdowns show updated data after changes—if feed call is saved again.
- Once feeding starts, no changes can be made from the loader.
Feed Truck App
- Displays real-time updated ration and call values per pen.
- Destination pens from cattle movements are shown correctly (if changes were saved).
- In partial cattle movements, all relevant pens display in the delivery screen with appropriate feed call amounts.
Summary of New Capabilities
- Feed calls can now be updated after creation.
- Ration and feeding schedules are editable if feeding hasn’t started, but require re-saving the feed call to take effect.
- Intra-day cattle movements are fully supported with preserved feeding logic—changes take effect only when feed call is saved again.
- iPad apps reflect changes clearly in both loader and delivery screens.
